Hot & Humid

I can almost guarantee that if you are reading this, wherever you are is cooler than the New Jersey coast right now. It's at least 100 degrees with humidity right now, so I am currently sitting in the Pennant Room, the one room of the Ambassador that has air-conditioning.

Yesterday was my first day of work! I spent the day stocking shelves and working in the backroom, since my name wasn't in the computer system to be able to work the register. I'm hoping that tomorrow I will get to spend some time doing that as well. The day went pretty well, especially considering it was my first day ever working in that type of environment. By the end of the day, I could kind of point people in the right direction to find the things they were looking for (it is quite hard to do this when the only time you've ever been to the store is for your interview, surprisingly). Luckily, the people I was working with were friendly and willing to help me out. Usually I get nervous going into new things like this, but God really calmed my heart and gave me peace and patience throughout the day.

The only large downside of yesterday was that I didn't figure out how the break system worked, so I ended up taking my break 3 hours later than I was supposed to. So by the time I rode my bike home in the heat, with very little food in my stomach, I was feeling a little under the weather. But with lots of water and sleep last night and this morning, I am feeling much better, praise the Lord! I'm hoping that it was just the result of a long day with too little food and too much heat, and not something worse.

On a happier note, we got assigned our project jobs this week! This week's theme is "Agape" or Family week, since it's the last week we have with staff. After Thursday night, the students take over project for the remaining 4 weeks. My role is co-meetings director, which means that I help organize, run and oversee the large group weekly meetings. I'm both nervous and excited for my role, but I know God has placed me in it for a reason and that I will be really stretched through it. Last night we met with the staff whose roles we will be taking, and tonight we get more extensive training.

Be praying that...
-- I remain healthy
-- I can continue to find peace and patience in Christ at work. I'm still learning the ropes and want to be able to be a light for the gospel in that space.
-- I will continue to rely on Christ in my leadership role, and that He will give me boldness and humbleness as He uses me in this role.
-- as a whole project, we can make a smooth transition after the staff leave

  1. Hi, Em,
I'm taking a break from packing (we're moving to the Oakland Hills) and I thought I'd check in with you. The East Coast heatwave is big news out here (where it's foggy and breezy). I sure hope the AC works at CVS! So gratifying to hear how you are growing in your relationship with God this summer. I'll keep tuning in for more of your adventures. Love, Kristen
